Things to do…

Undercliff Walk – from Windhaven you can enjoy a walk along the flat promenade

alongside the sea, or on the cliff top, to Brighton Marina (1.5mls).  The promenade

continues to Brighton Pier (3mls) and farther.

Volks Railway – during the summer months you can hop on the oldest operating electric

railway in the world built by local engineer, Magnus Volk.  It runs along the seafront from

Paston Place, Kemp Town to Brighton Pier.

Rock Pooling – at low tide there are many rock pools which are home to a variety of small

marine creatures. Great fun for children with their fishing nets!

Rottingdean Miniature Golf and Putting Green – this is an 18 hole course and the

putting green is suitable for all ages.  There is a cafe alongside for spectators.

Brighton Marina - is home to the City’s outlet shopping as well as an Asda

superstore, multiplex cinema, bowling alley, casino, virtual golf complex and David Lloyd

leisure centre. In addition, fishing, diving, sailing and boat trips are available. There are

numerous waterfront bars, restaurants (including a Mc Donalds!) and cafes.  Parking is

free.

Brighton town centre - is a treasure trove of things to do and places to visit. The Royal

Pavillion is a breathtaking Regency palace and one of Britain’s best historic sites.  The Sea

Life Centre, a showpiece of Victorian splendour, offers a fun and educational day out.  There

is, too, the Brighton Pier with its rides and entertainments as well as the town’s numerous

beaches and a plethora of street side cafes, bars, restaurants, theatres, art galleries and

museums, pubs, nightclubs and, of course, shops.

Shopping – The Churchill Square shopping centre provides an undercover mall while the

Brighton Lanes offer uniquity and individuality and are a perfect foil for the North Laines

shopping experience – a mix of kitsch and funky.

The South Downs Way - is a long distance footpath and is one of Britain’s National

Trails. It runs for about 100 miles from Winchester (the first capital of England!) in

Hampshire to Eastbourne in Sussex and passes through the South Downs which is now a

National Park.  Bridle paths from Rottingdean offer both short and long downland walks

through the finest countryside.

Lewes – the County Town of East Sussex where you will find over 1000 years of history in

its streets and buildings.  Lewes castle is set on a hill above the River Ouse.  Its Guy Fawkes

Night celebrations are the largest and most famous Bonfire Nights in the country.

London – for the day.  Brighton to London trains in under 1 hour.  There are frequent

direct buses from outside Windhaven to Brighton Station.

France – from Newhaven, a 15 minute drive away, to Dieppe for a day trip!
